Express Entry & Provincial Nominee Program
Express Entry is Canada’s primary system for managing skilled migration applications. It is designed to fast-track permanent residency for qualified candidates who can contribute to the Canadian economy.

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows provinces and territories to nominate skilled workers who meet their specific labour market needs.
Three federal economic immigration programs
Federal Skilled Worker Program
For those with 1 year of experience anywhere.
Canadian Experience Class
For those with 1 year of Canadian work experience.
Federal Skilled Trades Program
For trades professionals.
Process
Candidates submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and are ranked against others in the pool using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

How It Works
-
Profile Submission
Create an online profile outlining your skills, education, work experience, and language ability. -
CRS Scoring
You are assigned a score based on key factors such as:-
Age
-
Education
-
English and/or French language proficiency
-
Work experience
-
Adaptability and additional factors (e.g. job offer, provincial nomination)
-
-
Invitation to Apply (ITA)
Candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws. -
Permanent Residency Application
Once invited, you have 60 days to submit a complete application. Processing times are typically around 6 months.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows provinces and territories to nominate skilled workers who meet their specific labour market needs.

There are two main ways PNP works in relation to Express Entry:
1. Express Entry-Aligned PNP (Enhanced Streams)
-
You must have an active Express Entry profile
-
A province selects candidates directly from the pool
-
If nominated, you receive an additional 600 CRS points, which virtually guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
2. Non-Express Entry PNP (Base Streams)
-
Apply directly to a province or territory
-
If nominated, you then apply for permanent residency through a separate (non-Express Entry) process
-
Processing times are generally longer
Each province has its own criteria, often targeting specific occupations, skills, or regional needs. For example, provinces may prioritise candidates with experience in healthcare, trades, IT, or those with connections to the province.
