Step 1 - Skills Assessment + English Exam

A positive skills assessment is required to lodge an Expression of Interest. A skills assessment is an assessment of your education and employment experience to ascertain if you meet the Australian industry standard in your profession. Each occupation has a dedicated skill assessing body that conducts these assessments.

You must also pass an English exam and achieve the score of Competent English.

Step 2 - Expression of Interest (EOI)

Once you have obtained a positive skills assessment and the required English score, you are able to lodge an Expression of Interest. You must have a minimum of 65 points to enter the program. An EOI is an indication to the Department of Home Affairs that you would like to be considered for a visa under this skilled program. Once your EOI has been lodged, it will be ranked against other candidates in the same occupation. Those with higher points will receive an invitation to apply for a visa faster than those with lower points. Your EOI will remain in the system for a period of 2 years. You may apply again if you do not receive an invite during this time.

Visa Application

If your Expression of Interest has been positively assessed, you will be invited to apply for a visa. The visa application is an assessment of the claims you made in the Expression of Interest. If you lodge your application in Australia, you will be issued with a bridging visa that will permit you to stay during the processing period.
